DD-2 and the Masters of the Universe

The limited choice of TV serials we got while growing up has made the programmes mentioned below all the more special. My eternal thanks to DD-2 and the team which put together "funtime" during the vacations.

Heres the list....

Johnny Sako and his Flying Robot
I would wait a whole week just to hear the kid shout out into his wristwatch “Come on Giant Robot!!” …| |…/ \...=…=…|| … Yippiieeee. Come to think of it, his hirdo was a little Sphinx-like but who cares…. he saved my world umpteen times back then.

Different Strokes
The serial was wholesome family entertainment, Arnold was fun, etc taught us kids about values once in a while blah blah blah…. I saw it for the bunk beds the brothers had…cooooooooolllllll!!!

Star Trek
Frankly I never understood Star Trek (the original series). I don’t think I knew much English back then. Do remember making flip open walkie talkies by binding two matchboxes together with a rubber band. Hehe… kids today will never have that kind of ingenuity…they’re born with bloody Motorazors in hand.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
We all could go on and on writing about this one. The theme music, the characters, Eternia, Castle Grey skull, everything was just super fantastic. Tough I must admit, I would turn off the TV about 2 mins before the episode ended. That’s when He-Man would go all moralistic on us (remember?). Saala bohot dharma karam ki baatein karta tha.

Gaayab Aaya
Quite frankly I don’t remember much of our dear old desi casper. Just remember the theme song 

Care Bears , Glow Worm and My Little Pony
Girly shit… no comments

Fraggle Rock
A pretty well made puppet world. But I still don’t know who those fraggles were, who those grizzly gimps were or who that nice old man with the dog was. And that garbage dump lady was weird.

Fireball XL 5
What a theme song. I think it was basically a team of 3 astronauts having intergalactic adventures. And what a theme song.

Indradhanush
This one was about a time traveling cycle(I think) or some time traveling machine in any case and how a bunch of kids have fun with the gizmo. Oh I think there was a talking computer as well. AI had been explored by us Indians back in the 80s.

G.I.Joe.
The cartoon was popular…Funskool made it a rage. The action figures were really something…and they had the coolest guns.

A list of some more shows that come to mind..

Faster Fene (I knew him as a Tinkle hero)
Appu aur Pappu (haathi mere saathi)
Spiderman (remember the 15 minute slot he got on Sunday evenings...pathetic)
Street Hawk (hayabusa hai hai)
Shazam! (he never had eye balls)
Ek do teen char (The 4 investigators....I think they were from the capital)
Famous Five (golden brown marshmellows, ham n cheese sandwiches, n a tall glass of lemonade)
Stone Boy (magical tribal ghost kid...wasnt he??)
Mungerilal ke haseen sapne (chimgadad Batman)
Bikram aur Betal (main chala)
Fairy Tales (are these the best stories the europeans ever came up with!!)
Tenali Rama (smartass)

...and many many more. We really loved these shows. I think the grown ups did too. It was the only time there was complete silence in the building.
